Maybe??: Tv does not cause brain damage, but far easier to sit comfortably and vegetate, and may be relaxing after stressful day. But many folks have stopped reading and learning, and even become more reclusive due to habitual tv watching. With the variety of cable activities, not hard to get into pattern. However, some evidence that chronic tv does lead to deconditioning, and weight gain.
