A member asked:

In blood work, does elevated gamma globulin (m-spike) often cause the total serum globulin to be elevated as well?

Yes.: If it is elevated and you have had a serum electrophoresis, urine electrophoresis, as well as kappa and lambda free chain studies performed, then i would advise consultation with a hematologist.

Tt could: Since, total globulin level usually includes all kinds of globulins (alpha, m spike etc). An immunoelectrophoresis can further characterize the m spike.
