How long does a head mri take? i get claustrophobic easily and want to figure out how to best prepare myself.

It is brief: The amount of time required for an MRI of the head varies, but generally it is brief (minutes rather than hours). To prepare, try this: (1) take an active (rather than passive) perspective; you're hiring the medical team to take pictures of your head; (2) learn "the relaxation response" (rr)(instructions online); (3) practice the rr daily while lying down with your head in a box. Relax and go on.

20-45 minutes: This depends somewhat on the capability of the machine and the type of MRI study. A typical brain MRI usually takes about 20-45 minutes. Some brain MRI studies are longer if certain part of the brain is to be study, such as the pituitary gland or the inner ear canals. It's also longer if contrast/dye injection is needed.
