Normal fluid actions: The fetus requires a buffer of fluid around its body to preserve the space available for normal development.The amount compared to babies size peaks at ~12 wks & declines thereafter.Without this cushion, the fetus is compressed so firmly that the spongy lung tissue can not find space to develop. A baby can make it through the whole pregnancy, to die at birth with no lung tissue to sustain life.
