A member asked:

For a fever, when are you supposed to apply an ice pack on your forehead and when are you supposed to bundle up in blankets for extra warmth if ever?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Grandmother's advice: Both of these treatments are wive's tales like the theory that going out in the cold without a jacket causes you to catch a cold.Use a blanket when you feel cold; if you're shivering it's your body's way of generating heat and, if that heat results in a fever, take tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil, it will stop your shivers and start you sweating.Ice works to reduce fever if you're submerged in it.
