Change: To change one's personality, one needs to really want to change. Pain often motivates change. No matter how much you want to help your father, if he isn't strongly motivated to get and use help - he likely won't. I am sorry if this sounds dismal. However, I do recommend taking really good care of yourself. It can be very difficult when you love someone who has a borderline personality disorder.

DBT: Your dad has to eat to be helped; you cannot do it for him. Dbt, or dialetic behavioral therapy, formulated and developed by marsha linehan, pH.D. Is currently though of as being very effective. Borderline personality disorder or treatment is more a management issue than an issue that is curable.
