Yes.: Stimulants such as Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) have been studied extensively down to about age 6. Below that, we know much less, although studies that are available suggest it has similar effects, just not as beneficial. 5 mg is a relatively small dose; if it's helping with few or no side effects, then he should be fine.
