A member asked:

Why do you need to strengthen the knee before getting acl reconstructive surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Two reasons: You should work on both strength and flexibilty, especially extension. Getting extension back is the most common issue in acl reconstruction. Making sure you can fully extend your knee preop is the best way to minimize that potential problem postop. Also, everyone develops some quad atrophy during acl rehab, so having maximum strength going into it means less weakness later.
