Absolutely: When a child / teen becomes depressed, it is not uncommon for grades to drop. They may lose focus, interest and drive.

Yes: Depression involves a preoccupation with negative thoughts about oneself and their surroundings, feelings of inadequacy, indecisiveness, decreased motivation and interest in normal activities, and lack of energy. All of these could effect the ability to focus in school.
