Anesthesia: Anesthetic drugs are of several different pharmacologic profiles including volatile anesthetics, opioids, sedative/hypnotics, and paralyzing agents. Typical "pain killer's" are usually of an opioid derivative or possible adjuvant analgesic's such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents or Acetaminophen (in humans).

Some Differences: Veterinary anesthesia uses some dissociative meds similar to ketamine or pcp which tend to be not popular in people because of hallucinations and psychosis. They are quite effective but the animals can't complain of hallucinations. Also the animals behavior can be cute to watch on emergence. Opioids can be used. Also employed are the inhalation anesthetics but they tend to be costly & avoided.

Effects: The use of pain medications if to decrease a persons or animals pain. The use of anesthesia drugs is to put the patient to sleep, that is to make them insensible to pain.
