A member asked:

What other treatment is recommended if lumbar epidural steroid injections do not work?

Depends: Hopefully you have already tried physical therapy. Epidural steroid injections are good for treating disc pathology and irritated lumbar nerve roots, both of which reside in the epidural space. There are many other pain generators around the spine such as joints, muscles, and ligaments that could be the source of your pain. These structures are outside the epidural space.

Depends on diagnosis: Depending on your diagnosis, there are other treatment options for your pain if epidurals proved ineffective. These may include spinal cord stimulator trial, medial branch block, radiofrequency neurotomy, discectomy, and possibly laminectomy.
