A member asked:

Whyat causes my nose to produce a lot of mucous?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Quart a day is norm: Our sinuses produce a quart of mucous each day! it is all transported into the nose, and directed down the throat where we swallow it. If this mucous gets dry or thick, we begin to notice it. Hydration--drinking 80 ounces of fluids per day (alcohol does not count)--is important to keep the mucous thin and not bothersome. Guaifenesin (mucinex (guaifenesin) or robitussin) can also help to liquify the mucous.
