Thru mucus membranes: Hiv, the virus that causes aids, can cause infection when there is unprotected sexual contact. Hiv exists in seminal and vaginal fluids and can cause infection when it comes in contact with mucus membranes, such as lining of vagina, anus/rectum, mouth, eyes, and urethra of penis.
