Their Mother: Most often children who are diagnosed with hiv/aids get it from their mother. Transmission of the virus can occur during pregnancy, labor & delivery or breastfeeding. In parts of africa, the child's risk of malnutrition if the mother does not breast feed vs. The risk of transmitting the virus to her baby has to be discussed and debated.
