Not usually: It would be most unusual for health insurance to "cover" labiaplasty, however, if the patient can present to the insurance company proper documentation that supports a "functional" reason for the procedure, then they may consider "covering" it.

Labiaplasty: Reduction surgery for hypertrophy of the labia is commonly covered by insurance as long as it is causing pain or difficulties (such as with sex or urination). As long as it is not called cosmetic by the surgeon you should be able to make it medically indicated.

Probably not.: I have done this operation since 1999 and have not yet had an insurance company cover one. I advise my patients that if appearance and comfort are not primary, seek a gynecologist.

Rare Patient: In my experience it is rare that the labiaplasty procedure is covered by a health insurance provider. However, for accurate information check with your own health insurance. Best wishes.

Not my experience: Despite submitting this as medically necessary, I have found that many third party payors have denied payment.

Probably no: Each insurance coverage is different, and each patient is different. It has been the experience of our office that they do not pay for this operation. Having said that, it may be worth a try depending on your particular case. Talk with your board certified and experienced surgeon.
