Where are the incisions done for breast augmentation?

Generally 4 answers: Most surgeons do breast augmentations through 3 incisions; armpit, around the areola and under the breast. The fourth incision is at the belly button and is used for tuba or transumbilical breast augmentation. There are pros and cons to all of them.

Several options: The three most common incisions are in the crease under the breast, around the lower edge of the areola and in the armpit. Some patients are good candidates for any of the 3 options and other patients, because of their anatomy, are candidates for only one or two of the options.

Several Options: The most commonly used incisions used for breast augmentation surgery include incisions under the areola, under the breast folds, and in the axillary area. Trans umbilical approaches are also available. There are pros/cons of each incision site; best to individualize the incision based on patient's anatomy, preferences….

3 common: I agree with my colleagues that the most common incisions are located #1 in the breast crease, #2 around the areola, and #3 in the axilla.

Breast Enhancement: Here in northern virginia we do the same as all the other plastic surgeons when it comes to incisions. Under the breast (iframammary fold), around the areola, under the arm and tuba. Under the breast is the safest and has the least risks associated with it imo. All scars have a percentage chance of turning into a keloid and the most hidden scar is under the breast. Mountcastleplasticsurgery.Com.

Areola/axilla/IMF/um: There are four traditional approaches and the order of their popularity is: 1) the inframammary fold (imf) breast crease 2) around the areola 3) through the armpit (transaxillary) 4) through the umbilicus or belly button (transumbilical).

3 main types: The traditional locations for breast augmentation incisions are: 1) inframammary (crease), 2) peri-areolar, and 3) trans-axillary (armpit). Recent studies suggest that the inframammary incision is the safest, with the lowest risk of complications, including the lowest risk of capsular contracture, compared to the other two approaches.

4 options: 1) trans-axillary (armpit) 2) periareolar (under the nipple) 3) infra-mammary (fold under the breast) 4) trans-umbilical (throught the belly button) each way has its advantages and disadvantages. Your surgeon will discuss his or her preferences and you can state your preference. One thing to keep in mind is that trans-umbilical breast augmentation will cancel the warranty of your implants.

Hi. The most common location for the incision is along the bottom breast crease where the precise placement of the implant is much easier to achieve. If scarring would be an issue, incisions can be done around the outer edge of the areola where the natural lines and ridges can camouflage the scars once healed. (check the comment section for more)
