What's the source?: If you have anemia, you either aren't making enough red blood cells - or you are losing them somehow. With a low iron count, you may be losing iron through blood loss. In a young woman with periods, menstrual blood loss is a likely culprit. But you can lose blood through your bowel movements, in your urine, by bruising, or even nosebleeds. Talk to your doctor to see if you can identify the problem.
