What is best to treat an arthritic hip, ice or heat?

Dr. John Shim answered

First ice: If you are having an acute inflammation, you want to decrease the swelling. That is why we usually recommend ice. But, if it is a chronic condition, sometimes health helps increase the blood flow and improves the range of motion and stiffness.
