You have tinnitus: What you are describing is called "pulsatile" tinnitus. It is fairly common and usually due to a blood vessel near your inner ear or hearing nerve. You should see an ENT doctor for an evaluation.

If at night the 'whooshing' just might be normal. If older consider arterial disease.
AVOID LOUD NOISES - headphones, concerts etc etc..
If ringing persists, seek attention from an ENT specialist.
