Normal stage: He is beginning to explore and find parts of his body. This is a normal stage that he going through.Donot make an issue about his "discoveries" he is going through a normal phase.

Yes: Your son (and daughters who do this) is perfectly normal. He's just learning about & exploring his body. Plus he's learning cause & effect. Soon enough (well, maybe not soon enough for you), he'll move onto a new/different body part to explore.

Masturbation is : Is normal from infancy. Teach him it's private & ok to do in his room. Your reaction reinforces his current behavior; ignore it by using time-out properly (. E.G., 1-2-3 magic or "little people" by dr. Ed christopherson). He'll escalate at 1st to try to engage you;then he'll stop if you consistently "walk, don't talk" to time-out. If he's mimicking sexual acts don't ask ?'s; see his pede. Asap.
