Playing = reassuring: If a parent is not sure when to take a 1 year-old to the doctor, he or she can call the doctor's office. Some doctors have their patients come in on the first couple of sick days, but it depends on the experience of the parents and on what the child is doing. A baby too sleepy, too fussy, or otherwise acting strangely, especially even when temperature is not very high, means an exam is needed.
