Opt for ACL: Yes, technically you may be to function without an acl, but you're 26 years old and if it were me, i'd opt to have mine reconstructed, especially if you want to play recreational sports. You're putting a lot of shear stress on your meniscus in an acl deficient knee. We can't recreate normal biomechanics ever, but i think acl competency will give you more longevity on that native knee.

Yes: The more active you are, the more you depend on an intact acl. If you have the feeling of instability, or that your knee is giving out, then you should definitely consider the surgery.
