Sleep Positions: Some people are not "back sleepers, " because of excess weight or stretching on the abdominal wall, generally seen in folks with a "little extra" around the middle. If you have "six pack abs, " this would suggest something else. If you can successfully switch to a side, and it may take a while to adjust, try it. Having said that, I am concerned about the severe stomach pain. I would check it out!
