A member asked:

24 and woke up in the middle of the night to chest pain. i believe i was on my left side sleeping when this happened and my left chest was hurting for a few min but no other symptoms. i flipped to my stomach and breathed and it stopped. what was that?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The stomach entrance is located just behind your heart. Things like caffeine & nicotine prevent adequate closure of this fold in the tube allowing irritation/pain from backwash of acid stomach contents. Laying down creates pressure that aggravates this. It can also interfere with sleep.
