Better not to take: Diazepam has rapid onset of action, but it has a very long half life, from 1-3 days. Diazepam at a dosage of 5mg. Can cause significant problems with alertness and motor functioning, eg. Driving a motor vehicle. Taking a sleep medication, 5 hrs after taking diazepam, may lead to significant CNS depression and problems with coordination and balance. So, taking a sleep medication is not recommended.
