It depends: It depends on the overall situation :what is his usual health like(any chronic illnesses?), has he been exposed to something virulent(have others nearby or at school been sick?). The majority of people who develop a 102 fever , ultimately recover as most causes are due to viruses.However there are other serious illnesses that can cause a fever as well. If he is "sick" , you should see a doc.

Fever: Fever needs to be controlled before you see your pediatrician. Tylenol (acetaminophen) , if you are in us is reasonable approach. If does not help and fever is rising, consider going to er. Contact your doctor's office even off hours, you will get guidance.

Symptoms : If he is otherwise well, treat the fever with Ibuprofen or Tylenol,provide fluids and he should rest until seen by his pediatrician.
