Many: There have been many long term effects of Lipitor (atorvastatin) reported. Most worrisome are muscle and liver injury which can be idiosyncratic.

< cholesterol and...: Reduce risk of heart attack, stroke and death. Can cause some muscle pains which is usually mild. Rarely Lipitor (atorvastatin) can cause liver abnormality which is reversible when medication stopped. A few notice a mild decrease in mental awareness ( mild cognitive dysfunction). Wide spread inflammation of muscle is extremely rare and I have not seen it. Claims that it causes cancer not true.
