-/+: There are false negative and false positive test. Depends on the kit quality, temperature , contamination and amount of HCG in the urine.

Not common.: There are some conditions that can cause elevated HCG in absence of pregnancy. If your HCG is elevated, speak with your doctor. If it's in the non-pregnant range, then it's accurate and you're not pregnant. Best wishes.
