A member asked:

Is it normal for 7 months later after surgery of diverticulitis to still be queasy and upset stomach? no fever or vomiting.

NOT REALLY: There's no reason for a post colectomy patient to have nausea or dyspepsia, related to the surgery. I'm assuming you are no longer taking post operative pain medicine. Speak to your doctor. In the meantime , focus on a healthy diet with good hydration. Good luck.

No: Typically we would expect your intestinal function to be back to normal within 6-8 weeks of surgery for diverticulitis. Prolonged upset suggests that the bacteria mix that normally lives in your intestine has been altered by surgery and the antibiotics given around the operation. Probiotics may help. Some people can also become lactose intolerant for a while after surgery.
