See a doctor!: This could be a middle ear infection or external ear infection (swimmer's ear), both of which need to be examined and treated, but it may be related to other things (teething, sinuses, etc). Let me say it louder: see a doctor! (i seriously hope you didn't wait for this answer and that common sense prevailed if the pain didn't go away and that you took your child to the doctor... Please?).
