Infection: Pus spots on the back of the throat or tonsils usually means an infection is going on. Often they're caused by viruses and go away in a few days. They can also be caused by bacterial germs like strep. Talk to your doctor. They may want to do a strep test to see if treatment is needed. You can help throat pain by drinking cold (non-acid, non-carbonated) liquids. Throat lozenges can help.
