See below: I believe you are referrring to MRI with direct athrography of the hip. This is typically done with injection of an MRI dye (gadolinium) into the hip joint prior to the mri. This is a minor invasive procedure, using a needle. The doctor typically gives you a local anesthetic for this. A small amount of ct contrast is also injected for the needle placement. The doctor would explain risks & benefits.
