Migraines: Some migraines are associated with visual auras. This is very common. If the red one is in your visual field then you are having a migraine that involves the visual part of the brain. If the red line is in your eye and the headaches on the same side you may be having cluster headaches. Both are a form of vascular headaches.

Classical migraine: Some pts experience an aura or prodromal neurological event which affects vision, and usually involves bright sparkling lights of spots of visual loss, lasting 5-10 minutes. Altho the "red line" sounds unique, this could be your form of aura. But, rarely, this might represent retinal issue such as detachment. Just to be safe, have an eye specialist check this out.
