Stool retention: I would have her evaluated by a physician. My evaluation of such cases includes a general & dietary history, time of onset, previous treatments & successes. An exam that focuses on the abdomen & rectum, abdominal x-ray & occasionally a contrast enema. Most kids who reach this level of dysfunction need a bowel rehab plan that requires 6m of effort & lots of tears & frustration.Good luck.

She is suffering: From chronic constipation with fecal soiling as a consequence. Need to see her pediatrician for management. Make sure she does not have urinary tract infection as a consequence. In the meantime, you can get her MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) 1 capful daily or any stool softeners available in your area. Follow instructions on label . If not sure , call and ask your pediatrician.Increase plenty of fluids, fruits, fibers etc.

Go to MD. An X-ray : Of her abdomen will show if liquid stool is leaking around an impacted stool that has to be cleaned out before MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) will work. Once it's cleaned out, she needs treatment for at least 6 months, with bowel- training or re-training.

See your doctor: When children get very constipated, they may have stool accidents with very loose stool. The intestines can get stretched out and lose muscle tone. They need to have the bowels cleaned out and then keep things moving until the bowels are working properly again. This takes some time and proper medical supervision.
