Screening: A 24 hour urine collection for 5hiaa is a screening test for carcinoid syndrome. There are certain foods and meds that need to be avoided for several days prior to the test as they can lead to false positives. Carcinoid syndrome often presents with episodes of flushing, diarrhea and wheezing.
