Ovarian Cyst: No! look for a second opinion you are too young for loosing an ovary and will eventually hurt your future fertility. A hemorrhagic corpus luteum should respond to birth control pills and if it does not, it may be an endometrioma (or chocolate cyst). A 5 cm cyst should be easily removed without hurting the ovary and its considered a routine procedure these days.

Ovarian cysts: A hemorrhagic cyst is a cyst that bled into itself with ovulation. This type of cyst will usually resolve by itself in 1-2 months. If it doesn't resolve it may be a benign growth that needs to be removed surgically. Most of the time we can remove the cyst and leave the ovary. One ovary can produce all the hormones you need and you can get pregnant with only one.
