1st FamilyDoc 2nd GI: Your family doc is an excellent go to guy/gal for initial evaluation of your complaints. S/he can evaluate, diagnose & treat you and refer if appropriate to a gastroenterologist. If you notice a change in bowel habits like pencil thin stools, ribbon flat stools, bloody stool or unintended weight loss, gastroenterologist might offer colonoscopy +/- egd especially if family history of colon cancer.
