Vit. C is beneficial: No continue to give vitamin c during a cold. It bolsters the immune system as well as having an antihistaminic effect.

Yes: Most studies show no benefit to vitamin c in preventing colds and minimal, if any, benefit in reducing symptoms or length of symptoms. On the other hand, as long as you are not taking huge doses, it is generally a well tolerated product.
