Period of Adjustment: Gastric bypass works for two reasons: it physically shrinks the size of the stomach; and it causes malabsorption. One of the signs of malabsorption can be diarrhea. Most often this is caused by a decreased ability to absorb fats. Over time, the guts adjust. The most important thing is that you remain hydrated. I encourage you to ask your physician for advice. They know better.

Post surgery care: Diarrhea after bowel surgery can have several causes, from normal to infection related. The dietary protein might be a contributor. However, it is a good idea to discuss this with your surgeon, as we want to rule out the more serious causes right away. A stool sample to check for infection/c. Diff is easy and will help you. Early diagnosis and treatment is the goal during recovery.
