Not necessarily: There is some variability in closure of the cranial sutures. Head size and shape are things a pediatrician pays attention to during early development. If one of the sutures closes way too early, the head will usually have a visibly unusual shape and may impede normal brain development. This would qualify as craniosynostosis. If all sutures close slightly early, it is not usually a problem.
