Does craniosynostosis mean a baby's soft spot is closed or their suture lines? are the soft spot and cranio independent of each other?

Craniosynostosis: Craniosynostosis is the premature closure of a growth plate or suture. Most children will close only one suture early although some genetic syndromes will close multiple sutures. The soft spot or fontanelle is the point where multiple sutures come together. Fontanelles will usually close with the suture.

Craniosynostosis: The soft spot can be closed early in craniosynostosis but that is rare and usually associated with syndromic more complex children. if the soft spot closes early, under six months the pediatricians was sometimes be concerned about craniosynostosis but if the head is growing adequately then this is rarely a problem.

Separate issue: The soft spot is variable in its size and apparent time of closure. It can be small to the point of being undetectable or 5 inches across. As long as the sutures (edges) are not ridging up (like a mountain peek), it is unlikely knitting too soon (synostosis).Craniosynostosis ends the growth at that joining point, forcing the skull to grow in other directions causing an abnormal shape.
