Dynamic Stretches: If you are stretching cold, it could be counter productive. Instead, try doing dynamic muscle stretches or warm up before doing your stretches. Find a personal trainer who can help determine the best dynamic stretches for your fitness level and activities.

Yes: Overstretching can cause tears to muscle fibers and tendons. Avoid it by making sure your muscles are warmed up and softer and stretch very slowly. Slow and gradual to increase elasticity. Avoid quick stretching like bouncing further into a stretch.
