Possibly: If you trim it it won't propagate and tear significantly more. If it doesn't stop you from your enjoyable activities then keep going. What generally happens is the tear will worsen with some event and hurt more and you may then have it fixed. The cartilage on the bone is less protected and will wear down more with time (degenerative, post traumatic arthritis).
