Maybe indefinitely: Hydroceles that are not bothersome do not require surgery. Only have a corrective operation for this benign condition if it is painful or it is cosmetically problematic for you.

Analyse risk/benefit: You have a choice. The risk of leaving your hydrocele intact is pretty low. Surgery is never risk free. Okay to ask your doc. Okay to take a friend with you if you go for a surgery consult. Good luck.
