Two patients' safety: Women with a placenta previa are at risk of bleeding even if lying in a hospital bed. Moving or transporting to another hospital can be risky. Infants that are preterm often need special nicu support after delivery. The choice of whether to transport mom/fetus vs newborn is a difficult one usually made by teams of subspecialists and doctors at both hospitals who know the situation well day-by-day.

YES!: Definetly need to deliver where a level 3+ nicu exists. Both baby and mom are at risk. Mom for increased bleeding and dic complications; baby for neonatal depression with severe anemia/hypovolemic shock and the risk for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy. Time is of the essence, the longer the delay in treatment, the worse the prognosis for good outcomes.

YES!: Move close to a tertiary care center with a large blood bank (preferably trauma center) and neonatal icu! placenta previa is a dangerous condition that requires expert management. Consider all related discomfort as a minimal price to pay for a heatlhy mother-infant pair!
