Skin care, diet: Acne reflects the oils in the skin and the attraction of bacteria. Hormones change the skin, the size of pores and the oils. A skin care program morn and night will help. Cleansing the face, even with facial wipes, during the day after activity helps. A healthy diet of fruits and vegetables with less animal fats and refined sugars seems to help. Regular hours for sleep helps stabilize hormones.

Scientific Rx: The advice my colleague gave you is good. You can start the pharmacologic management with topical benzoyl peroxide; this is usually not enough for a man & your physician may add topical clindamycin, plus a retinoic acid derivative if there's blackheads. If not satisfied in a few weeks, systemic tetracycline 500 mg 2x/day is a good next step. All acne can be managed. Good luck.
