What are the chances of mitral valve repair surgery not being a success?

Depends: I know you are probably looking for a number but the actual answer is very hard to give. It depends on what the cause of the mitral valve regurgitation is, which leaflet (and even which part of which leaflet) is involved and then the experience of the surgeon going repairs. You should find someone who does a lot of them.

Low: The new techniques, open or robotic minimally invasive are quite effective. It does depend on the underlying pathology of the valve- leaflets, annulus, cords and papillary muscles and function. That is explained to the patient in the informed consent process.
