Musculoskeletal: Costalchondritis is inflammation of the juncture where a rib joins the cartilage that connects ribs to the sternum. It is exquisitely tender to palpating. Causes can vary and a mechanical strain evoked by lifting, pushing, or pulling can evoke. Some theorize that a virus can cause some cases. A small injection of cortisone can sometimes dramatically resolve.

Shingles?: If this is one-sided, there is a good chance that skin pain in a 4-inch wide stripe around from the back or flank to the chest with or without rash could be shingles. If you catch it early, shingles could just be itchy, irritated, painful skin. If you wait, the more-painful rash can pop out and spread. Shingles can hurt so much, you don't even want the sheets to touch your skin. Check it out!
