Several things: In general artificial sweetners including splenda are not as carefree as once thought. Over the past several years evidence has shown that consuming a large quantity on a regular basis leads to increased weight gain. More recently they have also been linked to the development of diabetes in a small study. In general smaller amounts natural sweetners like honey or brown sugar are likely better.
