Yes scratching cause at the least skin abrasions which are susceptible to infection Keep hands clean and nails filed down and smooth. Best to address the skin with hydrocortisone or other treatments.

One of the skin’s important functions is to protect against the environment.Dirty nails break the barrier and introduce all sort of germs that may cause viral,fungal or bacterial infections.Substances that cause contact dermatitis and irritants may be carried by nails as well.Even superficial contact may cause fungal infections.Hives are your immune system fighting those.Go to Dermatologist
